Facebook may fancy itself cutting-edge and uber-progressive, but when it comes to showing a little skin, the company can be downright prudish.
Digiday has the story of MeUndies, a cheeky undergarment company that uses Facebook to promote its product. MeUndies has been seeing its posts mysteriously disappear, mainly due to their updates being deemed “overly sexual.”
The company never heard an explanation from Facebook about the posts’ disappearance, and the social media giant declined to comment for Digiday’s article.
Naturally, MeUndies took to Facebook to poke fun at the platform with this stick figure drawing of a “photoshoot re-enactment”:
The image was posted as an ad, but it doesn’t direct to the company’s homepage. Those who clicked the ad were taken to a “Too hot for Facebook” section on the company’s site.
“We basically made a meta ad about our frustrations about the Facebook advertising platform,” MeUndies rep Dan King told Digiday. “And people stopped and said ‘I wonder why these images have been banned?’ We basically played to that curiosity.”
A second ad was later posted, this one simply featuring an image of the word “BANNED” and asking if users could even see it:

The company has since been in touch with Facebook, which is helping MeUndies become more compliant with its nudity standards.
